The Textile Development Engineer is a key member of the team within Innovation & Technology.  This role will research, analyze and implement the use of world-class textile technologies into the companies capabilities and product portfolio.

 

The Textile Development Engineer will lead, work with the Innovation Technology and Manufacturing technical personnel, creating both revolutionary and evolutionary solutions such as:  new products, alternative greige, cost reduction, and minimize raw material risk.

 

The Textile Development Engineer will perform full lifecycle of product development activities including: project planning, capturing customer specifications, prototyping, field validation and implementation and transfer to Manufacturing.

 

Responsibilities:

 

— Drive new technology opportunities, development efforts, and core technology improvements.

— Lead or assist development and introduction of new products at or below targeted cost.

— Utilize Company Development Phase Process as a guide for completion of projects.

— Communicates effectively with customers and stake holders on all issues related to projects.

— Apply fundamental technical textile concepts, practices and procedures.

— Maintain detailed project documentation and present updates to stake holders as needed.

— Combines both a research and hands-on approach to product development work.

— Travel to facilities, suppliers and customers, supporting development efforts.

— Work with senior technical members to transfer and utilize intellectual property/knowledge.

 

Requirements:

 

— BS degree in Textile, Chemical Engineering or Material Science, advanced degree a plus

— 5+ years experience weaving, knitting, nonwoven design and manufacture of greige goods.

— Knowledge of fiber extrusion processing, nylon, polyester, polypropylene and spandex.

— Worked in lab, plant floor with Microscopy, PLC web tension, temperature drive control systems.

— Expertise PVC, polyurethanes. acrylics. Polymer coating, lamination, gravure, calendaring ideal.

— Experience where a high degree of qualification, documentation and regulatory is required.

— Worked with stage gate or similar process.

— Self-Starter, responsible, accountable direct interaction experience with customers, vendors

— Communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and use of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.

— Strong analytical problem solving. Proficient in CAD software.
