Senior Ammonia Plant Engineer
Seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Ammonia Engineer to join our team at the corporate office. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Production Process may also locate at one of our larger manufacturing sites. The role of the Ammonia Engineer is key to our commitment to safe, compliant, productive, and efficient manufacturing of our products. Looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to provide their chemical manufacturing knowledge. The primary focus is improving the productivity and efficiency of our chemical manufacturing processes. This is a cross-site role that must deliver the further development and optimization of the ammonia plant assets, standard engineering & operating practices, policies, and tools the plants utilize to achieve excellence in plant operations.
Qualifications:
–Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline. Preferred is a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering
–Minimum of at least 8 years of experience in the ammonia process.
–Additional consideration will be given to experience in manufacturing Urea, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, ammonium nitrate solution or prill.
—Prior experience in leading manufacturing improvement initiatives
—Well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to provide sound and timely technical advice to stakeholders
Leadership:
–Work in close cooperation with operating facilities to provide ammonia expertise throughout sites operations.
—Ensure experience transfer from each of the operating sites are built into the plant engineering, fabrication and operation standards.
—Proactively manage process issue resolution and lead problem solving and root cause activities.
–Provide technical support to coaching and mentoring young engineers
Environmental Health and Safety:
–Promote and actively participates in “SCORE” Safety culture continuous improvement initiatives.
–Demonstrate a strong commitment EHS initiatives that drive improvement in areas such as process safety, emissions and and ESG targets.
–Review all process designs and modifications for safety implications and requirements
–Perform Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazops) via the plant Process Safety Management of Change (MOC) process
–Leadership role in successful safety and environmental improvement efforts.
–Supporting environmental professionals in the development, maintenance, and compliance with site operating permits.
–Development of tools and capability to optimize manufacturing to the limits set by the operating permit.
–Establishment and improvement of management systems aligned to OSHA 1910.119.
–Ensuring adequate hazard identification and risk management processes are in place.
–Provide technical recommendations to permit plant operation within state and federal government air and water pollution control requirements
Efficient Production:
–Develop production and process performance metrics and use these metrics to identify opportunities that drive improvement in areas such as process safety, production, efficiency, and waste reduction.
–Support existing production facilities in maturing early projects and troubleshooting.
–Develop and make recommendations for new process designs and modifications for assigned areas to ensure maximum operating efficiency, return on investment, and safety
–Prepare process inputs and specifications for budgetary proposals/ feasibility / concept phases studies as well as permit applications for innovative projects.
–Ensure that the process design is safe and suitable for operation.
–Assist the Contractor in solving technical queries during the procurement, fabrication and site construction.
–Participate in HAZOP and 3D model review workshops, Value engineering sessions.
–Keep up to dates with latest technologies.
–Development and continuous improvement of engineering, plant and equipment standards and specifications in the process engineering discipline.
–Review and approval of chemical engineering aspects of changes made to the plant, including review of PFDs, PIDs, PDRs, datasheets and specifications.
–Design, construction and commissioning activities in the process engineering discipline to meet defined project objectives.
–Evaluate chemical processes and unit operations to improve operating efficiency and rate, product quality, on-stream factor and economy
–Prepare process flow sheets, energy balances, material specifications, etc., in order to provide sufficient information for the Project Engineering group to prepare detailed specifications for cost estimation and construction
–Provide technical support to departments outside Operations
—Promote and contribute to successful implementation of projects by providing accurate, timely and thorough design input and design review and by facilitating close coordination and communications with area personnel
—Successes in leveraging tools such as dynamic work design, lean manufacturing, six sigma and overall equipment effectiveness to dramatically improve plant performance.
—Application of leading-edge technologies to efficiently gather process and asset performance and condition data.
—Development of analytic tools internal to or additive to a process data historian proactively highlighting areas of opportunity.
—Worked directly with operating teams to develop interfaces that effectively move from data anomaly detection to effective response.
—Established operating standards that drive excellence in the plants operating procedures and training programs.
